Meet Our Volunteers
Karen Beck Pooley, Committee Chair
I got involved with Northside Alive as a member of the Bethlehem Area School District Board. As we were considering a new LERTA district in the area, we wanted to make sure it really benefited area residents. So we worked with city officials and staff to simultaneously start a neighborhood planning process and ramp up community engagement - with our area schools centrally involved. It's amazing to see how far those efforts have come and I'm thrilled to still be participating, now as the chair of the housing committee.
Community Development & Neighborhood Branding
George Wacker, Committee Chair
My wife and I own a small media company right here in north Bethlehem and love being involved in the community, which is the best thing about living here. I'm excited to be part of a committee that focuses on specific neighborhood issues, concerns, and opportunities within our wonderful city. It's another way we can get directly involved in the things that make being a part of Bethlehem so wonderful.
Safe & Vibrant Public Realm
Meg Mikovits, Committee Chair
I have lived in north Bethlehem for the past 15 years. My family and I love walking through Northside neighborhoods. I got involved with Northside Alive to help make Bethlehem more walkable and bikeable for all.
Colleen Laird, Committee Chair
I am connected to the Northside Alive neighborhood in a few different ways — I am the Assistant CIO for Strategy & Communications at Moravian University. I lived in the neighborhood for over a decade, and my daughter is still a student at William Penn Elementary School. I was a founding co-chair and board member (and member-owner number three!) for the Bethlehem Food Co-Op, which is under construction and will soon be an anchor in the neighborhood. Now, I am proud to volunteer leading the NS Alive Economic Vitality committee, helping our community grow, strengthen, and celebrate.
